Activities

Fort Worth's warm climate make the City of Cowboys and Culture a perfect destination for outdoor and sports enthusiasts. Golfers , for example, can enjoy a wide variety of municipal courses and private clubs year-round.

Trinity Trails

Trinity Trails are the biking/cycling, running/walking trails of Fort Worth, Texas. The trails are named for the Trinity River, along which many of the trails are located.

This site is still in its infancy. The above map includes an in-progress map of the Trinity Trails, the trailheads with parking and other sites of interest on the trail. Manipulate the map, zoom in, have a look around and click any of the icons for more information on what they represent. Google Maps already includes the Trinity Trails and other bike routes on their basic maps, but I hope to include additional helpful information on this map for those who use or would like to use the Trinity Trails.

Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge

Welcome to the Nature Center

The Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge ( FWNC &R ) is a hidden jewel-a wilderness comprised of forests, prairies, and wetlands reminiscent of how much of the Fort Worth/Dallas Metroplex once looked. Replete with native flora and fauna , the FWNC &R beckons to those searching for a tranquil piece of nature.
At 3,621 acres, the FWNC &R is one of the largest city-owned nature centers in the United States. Over 20 miles of hiking trails provide easy access to a myriad of natural wonders to be found on the refuge. The FWNC &R offers a variety of education programs and hikes for individuals, schools and families. The staff is also heavily involved in Land Management techniques to ensure that the natural history of North Central Texas is preserved.

Fishing

Greenbriar Lake

Greenbriar Lake offers great fishing year round without leaving the city limits.

Texas Parks & Wildlife stock the lake with channel catfish, bluegill sunfish, green sunfish and largemouth bass — as well as rainbow trout in winter months — to create an urban fishery and family recreational fishing experience.

Rules

Children under age 17 can fish for free, but all adults must get a fishing permit with a freshwater stamp to fish in the state of Texas.

Individuals only may catch up to five channel catfish (no minimum length). Visit the Texas Parks & Wildlife website or call 1-800-792-1112 to find out about fishing regulations on other species.

Remember to catch and release

Officials recommend catching and releasing slow-growing largemouth bass and sunfish. For those who want to eat what they catch, remember to take precautions to avoid health risk from contaminants.

Lakes, especially in urban settings, collect pollutants that wash down stream and run off from the surrounding area. Largemouth bass have been tested for contaminates and are considered safe, but simple steps can reduce health risks from pollutants:
